#Missing Ana Marie Carrillo, 35, WYOMING, Mich. 9/3/17

9/12/17
WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — The ex-boyfriend of a missing mother of three is facing an additional charge in connection to the investigation in Wyoming.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker announced Tuesday that his office had charged Andrew Hudson, 38, with perjury related to an investigative subpoena in the case of 35-year-old Ana Marie Carrillo. Becker said the charge is a felony that carries a maximum punishment of life in prison.

Becker did not release details as to what led to the new charge.

Monday, Wyoming police said they suspected foul play in the case and named Andrew Hudson a suspect in Carrillo’s Sept. 3 disappearance.

The Wyoming Department of Public Safety said Andrew Hudson, who is the father of Carrillo’s three children, was one of the last known people to speak with Carrillo. They identified him as a suspect in her disappearance “based upon the results of the investigation so far.”

Family members say the morning Carrillo disappeared, she set out to pick up her kids from Andrew Hudson’s home and then lost all contact with her loved ones. Carrillo’s car, a red Chevrolet Impala, was found abandoned in the St. John Vianney church parking lot, less than a mile from Andrew Hudson’s home. The keys were still inside the vehicle.

Police said they began treating Carrillo’s disappearance as a potential criminal investigation almost immediately after she was reported missing.

Monday morning, Hudson was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of lying to police in the investigation. Those with knowledge of the case say the charge came after he lied about where Carrillo’s kids were the morning she disappeared.

Carrillo’s roommate told 24 Hour News 8 that Hudson was telling Carrillo to pick up the children at his home that morning, but the family has suspected that the children weren’t there — that the kids were instead in another county with their grandmother, Hudson’s mother.

Carrillo’s family learned that Hudson is a suspect in the case as they watched WOOD TV8 at 5 p.m. Monday.

Family members said Hudson had been violent toward Carrillo in the past. But her sister, Melinda Gomez, and cousin, Monica Martinez, say that in the days leading up to her disappearance, Carrillo didn’t say anything that would have made them think she was feeling unsafe with Hudson.

“She said that we had nothing to worry about, that she had it under control, that she was fine,” Gomez said.

But Gomez and Martinez say the last time they saw Carrillo, things didn’t go well.

“Our last meeting was together with her and it was to talk about them and the situation with the kids and she kind of walked away a little upset at us,” Martinez said.

24 Hour News 8 interviewed the two at a search party meeting in Wyoming Monday evening. They were planning a search in a Newaygo area where they say Hudson often went camping. A search party plans to leave at 9 a.m. Tuesday for the Newaygo area. Several teams will look around the area throughout the day.

“So you know what this means: We got to boot up, we’ve got to hoodie up, and it’s going to be tiring because we’re walking miles,” Monica Martinez’s husband, Ruben Martinez, told searchers Monday.
Ana Carrillo

Ruben Martinez has been organizing searches every day since Carrillo went missing. Family members are not giving up hope that she will be found alive.

“I still have hope that she’ll still come home. I just don’t think it’s good,” Gomez said.

When asked if he thought Hudson had anything to do with Carrillo’s disappearance, Ruben Martinez replied, “In the beginning, thought about it.”

“But when it came down to it, it was we were doing search parties he wasn’t even incarcerated yet. And no help from Andy at all,” he continued.

Andrew’s father, 62-year-old Lyle Hudson, was also formally charged Monday on the more serious charge of perjury. The charge stems from his testimony in response to an investigative subpoena.

An investigative subpoena is a tool police use to compel reluctant witnesses to testify under oath in an ongoing investigation. The penalty for lying under these circumstances is far more severe.

“On this date, at approximately 1320 hours, in the 62-A District Court, Lyle perjured himself by lying in a possible homicide investigation,” an arrest affidavit signed by Wyoming police officer Devon Holmberg stated.

The felony complaint stated that Lyle lied about “his knowledge of and/or involvement with a trail camara [sic] and/or images storage device and/or his contact or communication with Andrew Hudson.”

Police spent days searching Andrew Hudson’s home on Colby Avenue in Wyoming last week but officers have not released information about what, if anything, they found.

Officers also searched Lyle Hudson’s home on 32nd Avenue in Hudsonville last Wednesday. Neighbors say Lyle had a trail camera set up on his property to surveil his property.

The father and son were arrested Friday, jail records showed.

Lyle Hudson posted bond and was released from the Kent County Correctional Facility Monday night. As he walked out of the jail, he was met with Carrillo’s family members swearing at him and begging for information about where she is. He did not say anything.

“I’m angry, very angry. That’s why I’m here right now,” Carrillo’s cousin, Bria Rose-Burns, told 24 Hour News outside the jail. “Where is she? That’s all we want. We just want justice. We just want her home. That’s it.”

Investigators continue to ask anyone with information about where she is to contact the Wyoming Department of Public Safety at 616.530.7300 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.DEVELOPING: Ex-boyfriend of missing Wyoming mom facing new felony charge in connection to the case, prosecutor says.
